Those choices were based upon a series of thoughts and opinions you had about the circumstances which faced you in that yesterday.
If you look at that in any detail you will see that the thing that got you here is a thought. It was not the circumstances; it was your thoughts about them.
Now Right there….that gives us a route to Improve Your Self Esteem.
Here is a simple demonstration:
Two people are faced with the same circumstance, they live next door to each other and one day get informed that the building they live in has to be pulled down to make way for a new shopping centre. They are both told that they will be re housed in smart new apartments and given some compensation for their inconvenience.
One man sees this as a great new opportunity the others see it as a disappointment and troublesome thing.
The first mans tomorrow is filled with optimism, the second mans tomorrow is filled with resentment.
Those feeling are now part of their reality and to one man the world will look bright, to the other it will look dull. The reality is totally dependant upon what they thought about the circumstance, it was not the circumstance it was the thought.
That is a simple example but goes to demonstrate the point.
If we track this back we inevitably find that the circumstances of today, which will cause thoughts to form the reality of tomorrow are in themselves the reality of a yesterday themselves.
When this process of thought begetting circumstance and circumstance begetting thought has continued for some time, we call the result of it reality.
But do you see that you could simply change your mind about any of those circumstances at any time, and that would have then reflected in the present reality.
We can project shadows onto an open door and tell someone that the shadows are bars; if we can convince them of it, if we can make it a reality for them, the person considers or thinks that they are trapped; they do not even have to touch the bars, they "know" that they are trapped, it is a reality for them. What keeps them trapped is the thought; the bars do not even exist.
Only if the person were able to change their mind about the bars will they find that they can walk through the door, the reality changes with a change of mind.
My point is that it is never the situations or circumstances which are apparently present in your life that keep you trapped, it is your thoughts about them.
So we can say that it is your thoughts and not your circumstances which have lead you to where you are today.
This tells us something very important about how to Improve Your Self Esteem
This tells us that life and the universe around you will surrender very easily to a thought. It already has, it is the way it is because of what you have thought about it, it surrendered and almost immediately agreed with your thought. You see the results of your thoughts as an immediate reality.
It is the instantaneousness of this which fools most people. It is so fast that it looks like it is happening the other way around. It looks like life is a certain way and that makes us feel a certain way. But what made life that way in the first place?
Nothing other than your thoughts about it.
There is an idea that it takes time for your thoughts to become a reality, but this is not true. It takes time to execute a plan, but a thought is not a plan, it is a thought.
So we can say that you create your own life and that creation is a result of the thoughts you have had, and continue to have about it.
So does it follow that if we simply change our minds and start to thing about our lives differently, then life would suddenly change?
No, you can not fool yourself that easily.
As I mentioned above, there is a point where ones thoughts turn into a reality, as one is convinced of that reality, a simple opposing thought is not going to change it.
More than one thought went into the creation of your current reality, so it is going to take more than one new thought to change that reality.
The fact of the matter is that any thought which you think in opposition to your current reality will only go to solidify that reality. The new and opposing thought is dependant upon the current reality.
Let me put it like this. If you are poor, that is a reality for you, yes that reality is the result of your thoughts, but it has become manifest and now you see it as a reality. No matter how hard you try to think yourself rich it will never work. The thought is based upon the reality that you are poor. Therefore it goes to reinforce that reality.
To solve this we have to start to look at the nature of reality.
A reality is the result of many agreeing thoughts. We could say that the thread is the thought whereas the cloth is the reality. Laying one new thread on that cloth will not obscure or change the nature of the cloth.
As the new shopping centre cannot be erected without pulling down the old apartment block, so a new reality can not be constructed without taking apart the old one.
The mental mechanism with keeps your current reality in place is called a fixed frame of mind.
As I have said elsewhere, a fixed frame of mind is held in place by many agreeing thoughts, and a reality is constructed from many fixed frames of mind.
The further the cloth analogy; where a thought is a threat, fixed frames of mind would be represented by the warp and weft, which go to make up the fabric of reality. (Woven on the loom of life: for the poetically minded).
We now know how to effectively change a fixed frame of mind, and we know that it takes a little more than “thinking a new thought.” But it can be done and as it is we then find the reality of our life changing with it.
