What Is Self Esteem.

Self Esteem is essentially how you feel about yourself.

The word esteem actually means: Favourable opinion; high regard; respect to be held in high esteem – and - an opinion; estimation

So self esteem has to do with your opinion of yourself or your estimation of yourself.

Now I want to bring up a very interesting point……

Because your self esteem is essentially an opinion, it is your idea or your thought about your overall worth, ability, beauty, skill or confidence. Then it is not a fixed or unchanging thing.

The whole problem of self esteem, and the whole problem of low self esteem is essentially a problem of changing your mind.

I know that when you suffer from low self esteem, the thoughts that you have about yourself seem to be true and have a solid foundation in your own mind. But you have to realize that just because you think it does not mean that it is true.

It might come as some surprise that the thoughts you have about yourself are not the same thoughts that others have about you.

The esteem with which you hold yourself will be vastly different to the which another holds for you……….

So which one is true?

You see….when you ask….what is self esteem……we are asking a very personal and subjective question. And although you might be racked with feelings of self loathing, low confidence, and even disgust about yourself………others might have a totally different idea about you.

My point is that all of this is based upon the thoughts that you have. And inevitable your thoughts are based upon the experiences you have had in life. So we could say that your self esteem is based upon nothing more than circumstance and the thought patterns that the circumstances of your life generated. And just because you think those things does not make them true.

But the age old problem is…..how do we change those thought patterns……..how do we break out of fixed frames of mind…….

Because that is what is at the root of your low self esteem…….

Starting to think differently is not an easy thing to do…..but I have compiled a series of exercises that will help you to do just that.
